Transferring
fostering agency
All foster carers have the legal right to cease
fostering for the agency which holds their
approval by giving the agency 28 days notice in
writing.
Legislation is in place which enshrines this right in law.
The Fostering Services Regulations 2002
'A foster parent may give notice in writing to the fostering service provider at any time that he no longer wishes to act as a foster parent, whereupon his approval is terminated with effect from 28 days from the date on which the notice is received by the fostering service provider'.
If there are foster children in placement, the agency cannot deregister the foster carer untill the fostering agency the foster carer is transferring to has been approved by that agency.
